Architect Urmo Vaikla answers to LOORE flash questions
What is it like to run a residency?
We have spent a lot of time in residencies ourselves and consider it extremely important in our creative practice. When starting our own residency, we wanted to offer the same experience to others. In addition, there is an interest in old buildings and intriguing interiors, as well as meeting very interesting people. All of this together creates the perfect equation that running a residency provides.
The most important thing to know about KORDON residency?
KORDON is located on Hiiumaa. People who come here want to travel across the sea and engage with the island environment in every season. Going to the island is always like taking a leap and provides an opportunity to start with a clean emotional slate. Why are you members of LOORE?
LOORE provides a great sense of solidarity with people working in the same field, along with the extremely important exchange of experiences and knowledge. It is good to know that one creative residency is not an isolated entity in the middle of nowhere, but part of a larger and very significant picture.
What will the KORDON residency be like in 15 years?
In 15 years, the 200-year-old border guard station building should endure just as gracefully. Above all, we want to maintain our own interest, enthusiasm, and enjoyment; then KORDON will remain in the hearts of its users and be a desired place to come and engage in their creativity.
